The Official Book of BS - Feeza-Fama-Fooma Stuff

The other day I was pacing (because that is one of the ways I do my best thinking) and was absentmindedly tossing a small piece of plastic in the air.  Brian asked what it was and I gave him the accurate answer, “It is the plastic cover for an F connector (I had recently installed an amplified splitter that came with plastic covers on each f connector).

Of course the follow up question was inevitable, “What’s an F connector?”   I explained that is it is the type of connector used for coaxial cable, like you would find on the back of a TV.

“Oh, so that's what coaxial cable is?” he said.

Like the true geek that I am, I didn’t realize he was making fun of me and launched into an explanation as follows.  “Actually, coaxial cable is called coaxial cable because the conductors share the same axis.  There is a wire in the middle, then an insulator, usually plastic, and then a braided layer that is the second conductor followed by the outside insulation, also usually plastic (unless of course it is shielded coaxial cable in with case there is another insulator outside the braided conductor which is covered in the outside plastic insulation.”

“Dad,” Brian said, “Could you stop talking about all that feeza-fama-fooma stuff.”

Now, every time I start getting too technical my family members just say, "Too much feeza-fama-fooma."

Yes, truly, I am a geek.
